UAB receives highest number of Fulbright semifinalists in the school’s history

Fourteen UAB students have been selected as semifinalists for the Fulbright Scholarship Program.

UABFulbright2Fourteen UAB students have been selected as semifinalists for the Fulbright Scholarship Program.Fourteen University of Alabama at Birmingham students from 11 different programs have been selected as semifinalists in this year’s Fulbright Scholarship Student Program competition.

This is the most Fulbright semifinalists in UAB’s history.

“We were thrilled with the quality and diversity of Fulbright submissions this application cycle,” said Ashley Floyd Kuntz, Ph.D., UAB director of National and International Fellowships and Scholarships. “Our students worked hard, our faculty committee provided helpful feedback, and we can all be very proud of the outcome. Whatever happens in the next round of the review process, these students have represented UAB very well on the national stage.”

Fulbright semifinalists include: 

“Becoming a Fulbright semifinalist is a tremendous accomplishment, and we are proud of the hard work and thoughtfulness each student put forth to get to this step,” said Suzanne Austin, UAB senior vice provost and senior international officer. “I am grateful to our university’s National and International Fellowships and Scholarships director, Dr. Ashley Floyd Kuntz, and her team, who provided excellent support to the students throughout this process.” 

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the United States government. It is designed to build relationships between the people of the United States and the people of other countries that are needed to solve global challenges. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement, as well as a record of service and demonstrated leadership in their respective fields.
